2020's Top Hair Colour Techniques
Scotland's largest salon group and colour experts, the award winning Rainbow Room International team discuss the top 5 colour techniques for 2020...
Glossing – as we quickly approach autumn/winter 2020 we start to see a move in trends. This spring/summer it was all about having healthy looking, shiny hair but also with some lighter pieces scattered throughout to provide a sunkissed look. As we come into autumn/winter this trend develops further with extreme shine becoming one of the biggest trends for the season. Glossing is great for this, where an all over colour can be applied to your hair and will give it that glass like shine and a great, healthy looking rich hue. For brunettes in particular glossing is really great to keep your hair from looking dull and instead have it looking fresh, vibrant and expensive looking
Shadow root – everyone is looking for a more low maintenance hair look this year and for blondes, this is a perfect option. Lived in, more natural looking hair is definitely one of the most popular trends this year as a whole and allows for less appointments at the salon. The key to this look is that it’s blended well, which is why getting this done at your hair salon is key.
Contrasting colour – contrasting colour has started to become popular this summer and it will continue into autumn/winter. This is a great choice for those who like a bold, stand out hair colour and who like to experiment with their look. This works really for brunettes, who want to add some lighter face framing pieces to their hair but works well for all hair colours where bold and bright colours can also be incorporate into the look to provide and fun and funky feel.
Warm highlights – highlights are a great way to add depth and dimension to your look and are a classic colour technique. Warm shades in particular are starting to become really popular such as champagne, caramel and honey tones, which can add softness to the hair whilst providing it with shine and a fuller appearance.
Reflective red – muted red tones are super trendy at the minute and as we head into autumn they will become more sought after, as red is always one of the most in demand colours for the season. To achieve this a number of techniques can be used, highlights and colour slashes for example can be used to give the hair a subtle but effective pop of red that provides the hair with a shimmer and multi-dimensional look, or a tint can be used to colour the hair and provide an all over beautiful and rich red hue.
